This Open House will include opportunities to learn about Antioch’s commitment to diversity in all its manifestations, social justice, and environmental sustainability, as well as our dedication to providing unparalleled educational opportunities for students who are serious about effecting positive change in the world and in their communities.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a well-celebrated day in the Yellow Springs community. Each year the College and the village come together to share and celebrate the value of Dr. King’s work and the civil rights movement. This year, returning to our community for the weekend is Antioch College alumnus Richard Kaplan, associate producer of the documentary King: A Filmed Record...Montgomery to Memphis. His remarkable documentary includes archival footage of Dr. King’s public life, and it originally aired for one night on March 24th, 1970, in over 650 theaters around the country. The film recently received acclaim when it was re-mastered by the National Archives for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.
On Monday, January 20, there will be community events celebrating the work of Dr. King throughout Yellow Springs. We encourage those who attend our Open House on the 19th to attend celebrations in the village on the 20th as well. This has been an annual tradition here for many decades, and it is a great opportunity for students to explore both our College and local communities.
